Oceanfreight Low Sulphur Surcharge ex North Europe Region – Effective from 1st January 2015
11 November 2014
As of from 1st January 2015 all shipping lines will be affected by the introduction of Low Sulphur Fuel Regulations on Trades ex North Europe/Scandinavia and Baltic Region. The aim of the Regulations is to reduce the Sulphur Content in Fuel from 1.00% to 0.10%. This surcharge is to cover the additional cost of producing the Low Sulphur Content Fuel / Oil. It seems that some Shipping Lines are going to incorporate this increase within their normal container BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor) calculations whereas others are going to show it as a separate cost. So far lines that have announced specific Low Sulphur Surcharges that will come in to affect are: HAPAG LLOYD US$ 11.00 per 20ft / US$ 22.00 per 40ft MAERSK US$ 15.00 per 20ft / US$ 30.00 per 40ft If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your MTL representative.
