George Santayana (December 16, 1863, Madrid – September 26, 1952, Rome), was a philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist. He is known for the oft-misquoted remark, "Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it," from Reason in Common Sense, the first volume of his, The Life of Reason.
One part of my role here at Malcolm Total Logistics is training. Being able invest the time to pass on my knowledge is a very worthwhile and valuable exercise that adds to the strength and depth of our company. I believe George hit the nail on the head with his quote, so I put this in to practice by ensuring we all learn from the skill and experiences of our senior staff. We have seen many changes over the years, most of them good. At times people resist new ways, but I believe the only way is forward and we strive to find new solutions and innovative technologies to help improve our service. When I started with Don in the late 20th century (that sounds very strange….) we were just moving from telex machines to faxes and it seemed like Buck Rogers had entered the building. Since then many more advances have come at us thick and fast and I look forward to the continuing arms race between all the tech companies. A company is much more than a name and a building, it is primarily the people that make the difference, and that is why I am still with Don after something like 27 years. Having a work environment that challenges your mind each day and being part of a team that encourages each other is the dream job. I particularly enjoy bringing on new technology that helps us to deliver consistent quality work every time and being a key component in our internal training program. |
